Daily Financial Market Report for February 04, 2021

Equities market closes on a Negative Note…ASI Loses 51 Basis Point                                                                        

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.51% to close at 41,785.80. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N112 billion to close at N21.97 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at 3.76%.

Sectors performance was Significantly Bearish

Performance across sectors was significantly bearish as 4 out of 5 sectors closed in the red zone. Insurance, Banking, Industrial and Consumer goods indices declined by 1.11%, 0.31%, 1.19% and 0.13% respectively, on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares OF JAPAUL (-7.32%), HONYFLOUR (-6.04%), TRANSCORP (-3.85%), DANGCEM (-2.54%), UACN (-1.18), ZENITH (-1.11%), FBNH (-0.68%), UBA (-0.56%), FIDELITY (-0.56%), and GUARANTY (-0.15%) among others. While Oil and Gas sector closed in the green zone due to buy interests in the shares of ARDOVA (5.56%) and ETERNA (2.04%).

NASD Market

The NASD market closed negative after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) declined by 123 basis points to close at 714.01. Consequently, Market Capitalization also declined by 1.23% to close at N512.32 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 7,087.97% while value increased by 481.80%. Investors traded a total of 1,041,250 units of shares valued at N19.69mn in 9 deals.
