Equities market closes Bearish…ASI Loses 31 Basis Point
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.31% to close at 40,095.49. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N65 billion to close at N20.98 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -0.44%.
Sectors performance was Significantly Bearish
Performance across sectors was significantly bearish as 3 out of the 5 sectors closed in the red zone. Banking, Oil and gas and Consumer goods indices declined by 1.44%, 0.15% and 0.79% respectively, on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of ACCESS (-5.29%), TRANSCORP (-4.26%), UBA (-4.09%), UCAP (-3.85%), NB (-3.70%), FCMB (-2.57%), OANDO (-1.76%), ZENITH (-1.71%), DANGSUGAR (-1.10%) and FBNH (-0.68%) among others. However, Insurance advanced on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of PRESTIGE (4.55%), WAPIC (3.70%) and MANSARD (0.90%). Industrial Index remained unchanged.
The NASD market remained unchanged after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 713.91. Consequently, Market Capitalization also closed unchanged at N512.24 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume decreased by 87.84% while value decreased by 84.56%. Investors traded a total of 4,998 units of shares valued at N662,700 in 2 deals.
