Equities market closes on a Negative note… ASI loses 27 Basis Point
The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed Negative. The benchmark All Share
Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.27% to close at 39,219.61. Market Capitalization
decreased by 55.78 Billion to close at N20.43 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD)
returns settled at –2.61%.
What shaped today’s market direction?
Today’s market direction can be largely attributed to losses recorded in large and
mid-cap stocks in Banking, Industrial and Consumer goods sector. Some of today’s
market losers include: NB (-9.93%), UPDC (-7.46%), WEMABANK (-4.44%), AIICO (-
3.88%), OANDO (-2.85%), FIDELITYBK (-1.67%), STERLNBANK (-1.30%), INTBREW (-
1.06%), ZENITHBANK (-1.03%), ETI (-0.95%), DANGSUGAR (-0.83%), GTCO (-0.55%),
FLOURMILL (-0.52%) and UACN (-0.45%) amongst others.
The NASD market closed Positive after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted
Securities Index (USI) advanced by 1.22% to close at 744.34. Consequently, Market
Capitalization closed at 646.96 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate
volume increased 85.59% while value increased by 211.58%. Investors traded a total
of 734,207 units of shares valued at N23.35 million in 23 deals.
