Daily Financial Market Report for February 09, 2021

Equities market sustains Negative Trend…ASI Loses 13 Basis Point                                                    

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.13% to close at 41,510.16. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N28 billion to close at N21.72 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at 3.08%.

Sectors performance was Significantly Bearish

Performance across sectors was significantly bearish as all 5 sectors closed in the red zone. Insurance, Banking, Oil and gas, Consumer goods and Industrial indices declined by 1.73%, 0.52%, 0.25%, 0.25% and 0.04% respectively, on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of NNFM (-9.94%), TRANSCORP (-2.91%), UCAP (-2.81%), DANGSUGAR (-1.75%), GUINNESS (-1.01), UACN (-0.61%), ACCESS (-0.58%), UBA (-0.57%), WAPCO (-0.56%), GUARANTY (-0.46%) and ZENITH (-0.19%) among others. 

NASD Market

The NASD market closed positive after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) advanced by 0.34% to close at 742.63. Consequently, Market Capitalization also advanced by 0.34% to close at N532.85 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 3.69% while value decreased by 40.46%. Investors traded a total of 48,450 units of shares valued at N3.63 mn in 7 deals.
