Daily Financial Market Report for March 23, 2021

Equities market reverses to close on a Bearish note…ASI Loses 5 Basis Point

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.05% to close at 38,704.97. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N9 billion to close at N20.25 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -3.89%.

Sectors performance was Broadly Bullish

Performance across sectors was broadly bullish as 3 out of the 5 sectors closed in the green zone. Insurance, Oil and Gas and Consumer goods indices advanced by 0.64%, 0.13% and 0.11% respectively, on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of CAP (10.00 %), JBERGER (9.89%), NB (2.13%), OANDO (1.63%), MANSARD (1.01%), FBNH (0.69%), ACCESS (0.61%), GUARANTY (0.48%), MTNN (0.13%) and STANBIC (0.11%) among others. However, Banking index declined by 0.65% on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of ETI (-5.88%), ZENITH (-2.22%), FCMB (-1.35%) and STERLING (-0.67%). Industrial Index remained unchanged.

NASD Market

The NASD market closed positive after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) increased by 1.51% to close at 721.48. Consequently, Market Capitalization also closed positive at N512.84 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 197,858.58% while value increased by 20,546.13%. Investors traded a total of 669,100 units of shares valued at N22.33 million in 16 deals.
