Daily Financial Market Report for March 26, 2021

Equities market ends week on a Negative note…ASI Loses 20 Basis Point

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.20% to close at 39,216.20. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N40 billion to close at N20.52 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -2.62%.

Sectors performance was Broadly Bullish

Performance across sectors was broadly bullish as 3 out of the 5 sectors closed in the green zone. Banking, Consumer goods and Industrial indices advanced by 0.48%, 0.51% and 0.08% respectively, on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of GUINNESS (9.89%), UACN (8.75%), ETI (2.04%), WAPCO (1.65%), GUARANTY (1.28%), TRANSCORP (1.25%), FBNH (0.69%), ACCESS (0.60%), STERLING (0.60%) and UCAP (0.20%) among others. However, Insurance and Oil and gas indices declined by 0.39% and 0.20% respectively, on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of WAPIC (-7.27%), AFRINSURE (-4.76%) and OANDO (-1.79%).

NASD Market

The NASD market closed positive after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) increased by 0.29% to close at 725.91. Consequently, Market Capitalization also closed positive at N515.99 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 238.34% while value increased by 682.31%. Investors traded a total of 1,359,837 units of shares valued at N371 million in 5 deals.
