Daily Financial Market Report for March 19, 2021

quities market ends week on a Bearish note…ASI Loses 137 Basis Point

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 1.37% to close at 38,382.39. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N278 billion to close at N20.08 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -4.69%.

Sectors performance was Broadly Bullish

Performance across sectors was broadly bullish as 3 out of the 5 sectors closed in the green zone. Insurance, Banking and Consumer goods indices advanced by 0.94%, 2.80% and 0.08% respectively, on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of UCAP (7.37%), GUARANTY (4.03%), AIICO (3.33%), VITAFOAM (3.31%), UNITY (2.86%), ACCESS (2.55%), ZENITH (2.27%), FIDELITY (1.75%), FBNH (1.39%) and UBA (0.70%) among others. However, Industrial and Oil and Gas index declined by 0.22% and 4.40%, respectively on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of BUACEM (-6.42%), OANDO (-4.39%), DANGCEM (-3.42%) and MTNN (-1.81%).

NASD Market

The NASD market closed positive after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) increased by 0.20% to close at 710.73. Consequently, Market Capitalization also closed negative at N505.20 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 601.96% while value decreased by 90.48%. Investors traded a total of 249,000 units of shares valued at N848,619 in 4 deals.
