Equities market closes on a Negative note…ASI Loses 148 Basis Point
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 1.48% to close at 38,445.09. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by 301 billion to close at N20.04 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -4.53%.
Sectors performance was Broadly Bearish
Performance across sectors was broadlybearish as 3 out of 5 sectors closed in the red zone. Banking, Consumer goods and Insurance indices declined by 0.62%, 0.32% and 0.61% respectively, on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of AIRTEL (-10.00%), DANGSUGAR (-3.93%), ZENITH (-2.13%), UACN (-0.96%), STANBIC (-0.88%), UBN (-0.83%), FBNH (-0.70%), GUARANTY (-0.51%), UCAP (-0.49%) and DANGCEM (-0.47%) amongst others. While Oil and Gas and Industrial Indices advanced by 7.11% and 0.85% respectively, on the back of buy interests in the shares of SEPLAT (10.00%), MRS (10.00%), BUACEMENT (2.48%), TRANSCORP (2.33%) and ETERNA (0.38%).
NASD Market
The NASD market closed positive after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) increased by 1.03% to close at 763.84. Consequently, Market Capitalization also closed positive at N542.95 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume decreased by 4.04% while value increased by 9.29%. Investors traded a total of 3,668,684 units of shares valued at N78.43million in 42 deals..
