Equities market closes on a Negative note… ASI loses 124 Basis Point
The Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed Negative as bears dominated
proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated
by 1.24% to close at 37,994.19. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by 247
billion to close at N19.80 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at –
5.65%.
What shaped today’s market direction?
Today’s market direction can be largely attributed to losses recorded in large and
mid-cap stocks in Banking, Agriculture and Consumer goods sector. Some of today’s
market losers include: while AIRTELAFRI (-9.99%), NAHCO (-9.65%), NEM (-9.09%),
ETERNA (-5.61%), VITAFOAM (-4.63%), MBENEFIT (-2.44%), TRANSCORP (-2.11%),
MANSARD (-1.11%), FCMB (-0.99%), NASCON (-0.66%), ACCESS (-0.55%), UACN (-
0.51%) and ZENITHBANK (-0.20%) amongst others.
NASD Market
The NASD market closed Flat after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted
Securities Index (USI) remained unchanged to close at 744.39. Consequently, Market
Capitalization closed at N529.12 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate
volume decreased by 5.55% while value decreased by 46.97%. Investors traded a
total of 1,381,963 units of shares valued at N25 million in 23 deals
