Daily Financial Market Report for September 17, 2020

Bearish Run Persists…ASI Loses 7 Basis Points

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as the bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) waned by 0.07% to close at 25,533.35. Market Capitalization shed N9.18 billion to close at N13.34 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -4.88%. 

Sectors performance broadly bullish

Performance across sectors was broadly bullish as three sectors closed in the green zone. Insurance, Consumer Goods, and Industrial indices increased by 1.28%, 0.07% and 0.05% respectively, on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of Aiico (4.71%); Cadbury (7.10%); Intbrew (10.00%). Conversely, Banking and Oil and Gas indices declined by 0.36% and 0.19% respectively, on the back of selloffs recorded in the shares of Oando (-2.13%) and Fidelitybk (-0.56%).

NASD Market

The NASD market closed bearish after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) declined by 29 basis points to close at 720.02. Consequently, Market Capitalization also decreased by 0.29% to close at N528.9 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 63.99% while value increased by 158.19%. Investors traded a total of 1,331,905 units of shares valued at N21.1 million in 13 deals. Eight securities traded on the NASD platform today and they are: CSCS Plc, Afriland Properties Plc, WAMCO Plc, Mixreal Plc, Nipco Plc, Airliquid Plc, Famad Plc and NDEP Plc.
