Equities market closes on a Positive note …ASI gains 15 Basis Point
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed positive as bulls dominated proceedings in
the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) appreciated by 0.15% to
close at 38,564.70. Similarly, Market Capitalization increased by 30 billion to close
at N20.10 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -4.24%.
What shaped today’s market direction?
Today’s market direction can be largely attributed to gains recorded in large and
mid-cap stocks in Banking, Agriculture and Consumer goods sector. Some of today’s
market gainers include: AFRIPRUD (5.79%), HONYFLOUR (3.70%), UBA (2.11%),
UNILEVER (1.92%), INTBREW (1.85%), SEPLAT (1.45%), UCAP (1.31%), FCMB
(1.29%), MTNN (1.23%), TRANSCORP (1.12%), MANSARD (1.11%), VITAFORM
(0.84%), FBNH (0.69%), ACCESS (0.59%) and ZENITHBANK (0.21%) amongst
others.
Sectors performance was Broadly Bearish
Performance across sectors was broadly bearish as 3 out of 5 sectors closed in the
red zone. Banking, Insurance and Industrial Indices declined by 0.32%, 0.51% and
0.03% respectively. While Consumer Goods Oil and Gas Indices advanced by 0.18%
and 0.92% respectively.
Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 1.81% while value
decreased by 23.02%. Investors traded a total of 302 million units of shares valued
atN2.81 billion in 4,387 deals.
Market breadth measured by Advancers/Decliners was positive as it closed at 1.29x
indicating a bullish mood. At the close of trading : AFRIPRUD (5.79%), HONYFLOUR
(3.70%), UBA (2.11%), UNILEVER (1.92%), INTBREW (1.85%), SEPLAT (1.45%),
UCAP (1.31%), FCMB (1.29%), MTNN (1.23%), TRANSCORP (1.12%), MANSARD
(1.11%), VITAFORM (0.84%), FBNH (0.69%), ACCESS (0.59%) and ZENITHBANK
(0.21%) were amongst the 27 market gainers, while WAPIC (-7.02%), ETERNA (-

The Banking sector emerged as the most active sector. Equities of Sterling, ETI and
Wemabank were the most active in the subsector as 162 million units of shares
worth N1.41 Billion were traded in 3,078 transactions. Sterling, ETI and Wemabank
accounted for 56% of the total volume traded in the subsector.
Insurance came second ahead of Other Financial Institutions. Equities of MANSARD
and SOVRENINS were the most active in the subsector as 29 million units of shares
worth N16.9 million were traded in 646 transactions. Trading in the Equities of
MANSARD and SOVRENINS accounted for 64% of the total volume traded in the
subsector.
NASD Market
The NASD market closed negative after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted
Securities Index (USI) decreased by 0.77% to close at 746.19. Consequently, Market
Capitalization also closed at N530.40 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate
volume decreased by 53.01% while value decreased by 47.42%. Investors traded a
total of 3,061,444 units of shares valued at N67.92 million in 35 deals.
