Equities market continues week on a Bearish note…ASI Loses 4 Basis Point

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed negative as bears dominated proceedings in the market today. The benchmark All Share Index (ASI) depreciated by 0.04% to close at 38,706.13. Similarly, Market Capitalization decreased by N7 billion to close at N20.25 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -3.89%.

Sectors performance was Broadly Bearish

Performance across sectors was broadly bearish as 3 out of the 5 sectors closed in the red zone. Banking and Consumer goods indices declined by 1.03%, 0.42% and 0.02% respectively, on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of VITAFOAM (-5.16%), MANSARD (-5.05%), NEM (-4.57%), NAHCO (-4.55%), JAPAUL (-2.08%), FIDELITY (-1.79%), GUARANTY (-1.75%), WEMA (-1.67%), FBNH (-1.37%) and FCMB (-0.35%)  among others. However, Oil and Gas index advanced on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of OANDO (9.67%) and SEPLAT (0.92%). Industrial Index remained unchanged.

NASD Market

The NASD market closed negative after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) decreased by 0.45% to close at 703.67. Consequently, Market Capitalization also closed negative at N500.17 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume increased by 956.30% while value increased by 2461.53%. Investors traded a total of 10,563 units of shares valued at N153,691 in 1 deals.

Similarly, Market Capitalization increased by N83 billion to close at N20.26 trillion while the Year-to-Date (YtD) returns settled at -3.85%.

Sectors performance was Broadly Bullish

Performance across sectors was broadly bullish as 2 out of the 5 sectors closed in the green zone. Consumer goods and Industrial indices advanced by 0.23% and 1.70% respectively, on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of REGALINS (10.00%), JAIZBANK (9.68%), GUINNESS (6.52%), UAC-PROP (3.95%), DANGCEM (3.55%), GLAXOSMITH (2.42%), MTNN (1.20%), AIICO (0.83%), STRELING (0.64%) and LIVESTOCK (0.55%) among others. However, Insurance and Banking indices declined on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of GUARANTY (-4.51%), ZENITH (-4.25%), FBNH (-2.72%), MBENEFIT (-2.56%), UCAP (-2.39), UBA (-2.08), FCMB (-1.38) and MANSARD (-1.00%). Oil and Gas Index remained unchanged.

NASD Market

The NASD market remained unchanged after today’s trading activities as the Unlisted Securities Index (USI) closed at 700.23. Consequently, Market Capitalization also remained unchanged to close at N502.42 billion. Market activity measured by aggregate volume decreased by 99.95% while value decreased by 99.98%. Investors traded a total of 1,000 units of shares valued at N6,000 in 1 deal.

Performance across sectors was broadly bullish as 3 out of the 5 sectors closed in the green zone. Insurance, Oil and gas and Industrial indices advanced by 1.26%, 1.01% and 0.47% respectively, on the back of buy interests recorded in the shares of ARDOVA (10.00%), OANDO (9.09%), WEMA (9.09%), WAPCO (8.11%), SOVRENINS (4.00%), TRANSCORP (3.70%), AIICO (3.45%), JAPAUL (2.04%), STERLING (2.04%) and ACCESS (1.28%) among others. However, Banking and Consumer goods indices declined on the back of sell pressures recorded in the shares of LIVESTOCK (-9.87%), UCAP (-4.38%), FIDELITY (-4.35%), CADBURY (-3.61%), AFRIPRUD (-3.36%), INTBREW (-1.80%), ZENITH (-1.58%) and GUARANTY (-0.65%).
